Basis of our Recommendation

Vodafone Idea's recent operational stabilization, marked by its first positive net subscriber additions post-merger and improved ARPU, reflects management's commitment to aggressive network expansion and premiumization strategies. The INR 64 billion capital infusion is pivotal for achieving 4G coverage parity with competitors, which is expected to enhance revenue growth and margins. However, the company faces execution risks, including a declining core subscriber base and rising operational costs due to inflation and supply chain issues. Vista's financial outlook anticipates stable revenue growth and improving margins, supported by the structural tailwinds of the Indian telecom market, including low penetration and increasing digital adoption. Nevertheless, the high valuation relative to peers and substantial capital requirements for debt servicing and capex remain significant headwinds. Over the next 12-24 months, key opportunities include the ongoing network rollout and diversification into digital financial services, while watchpoints include subscriber retention and competitive pressures. Overall, while the outlook is cautiously optimistic, the path to recovery is fraught with challenges that could impact long-term growth potential
